FAYETTEVILLE BOYCE S. BAKER, 83 formerly of 5696 Old Fairground Road, Benson, died August 17, 2008 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville. Mr. Baker served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a retail manager for Kerr Drug Company in North and South Carolina and Tennessee. Boyce grew up in Lenoir. He was one of Jehovah's Witnesses and spoke passionately to all he met about his faith. He enjoyed reading, woodworking and gardening and telling all he met of his hope in God's promise that soon the earth will become a paradise wherein righteousness will dwell without sickness, pain and sorrow. Mr. Baker is survived by his wife, Treva Horne Baker, a son, Larry Gene Baker and his wife, Julia of Dinwiddie, Virginia, six grandchildren, Hannah, Meredith, Landon, Olivia, Abigail and Rachel, two step-daughters, Pat Ann Matthews and husband David and Judy C. Anderson and husband Gilbert of Fayetteville, a foster daughter, Mary Ann King and husband Sam King of Benson, along with several nieces and nephews. Boyce was the son of Mertie Ada Church and Asa Baker, He was preceded in death by his first wife, Louise Childers Baker, a son, Jerry Dean Baker, two sisters, Star Woods and Ruth Rakes Adams and a half brother, Ford Baker. The family extends a heartfelt expression of appreciation to the Cape Fear Valley Medical Center Hospice staff and to the entire nursing staff at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center's Observation Unit C. The family will be at the home of Pat Ann and David Matthews, 1928 Evans Dairy Road, Fayetteville. Services have been entrusted to Butler Funeral Home in Stedman, NC. A memorial service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, August 20th at 7:00 PM, officiated by Elder Richard C. Yarborough. Visitation with family and friends will follow the memorial service. Burial is private.
