Mr. Bobby Brantley Matthews, 62

WADE Mr. Bobby Brantley Matthews, 62 of Wade, died on Sunday, June 16, 2013 at his home. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at Butler Funeral Home in Stedman with Dr. James E. Dees, Jr. and Mr. Ray Starling officiating. Mr. Matthews was born on February 1, 1951 in Sampson County to the late Cecil Otis and Pauline Williams Matthews. He graduated from Central High School and received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from East Carolina University. He was a CPA and began his professional career with the North Carolina Office of the State Auditor in 1974. He served for 30 years in the State Auditors Office, rising from Trainee to Deputy State Auditor. Upon leaving that post, he served Fayetteville State University as Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance. He is survived by: his wife, Phyllis Allen Matthews of the home; two children, Pierce Matthews and Lydia Matthews both of Godwin; two brothers, Dwight Matthews and wife, Paula, of Fayetteville; A.B. Matthews and wife, Ruth Mary of Wade; two sisters, JoAnne Starling and husband, M.F., of Autryville; Donna Williams and husband, Jim, of Fayetteville. The family will receive friends on Wednesday afternoon from 1:30 to 3:00 P.M. at Butler Funeral Home in Stedman. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Clement Baptist Church, 6020 Maxwell Road, Autryville, NC 28318.
