Mr. Billy Gerald Peterson, 81, of Godwin, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, January 24, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 27, 2025 at Baptist Chapel Church with Pastor Tre Wiggins and Pastor James Laster. The burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Sunday, January 26, 2025 at Baptist Chapel Church in Autryville, NC.
Mr. Peterson was a native of Sampson County, the son of Corvie and Sarah Catherine Faircloth Peterson. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one great-granddaughter, Johnna Claire Barefoot.
Mr. Peterson was a hard worker his whole life. From sun up to sun down, Mr. Peterson never stopped. Mr. Peterson loved his kids, and loved his grandkids even more. Mr. Peterson worked as a farmer and with the North Carolina Department of Transportation until his retirement where he also finished out his work as a hog farmer. Mr. Peterson enjoyed hunting, working with the hogs, the cows, and with the tractors.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 61 years, Susan Ezzell Peterson, four children, Michael Peterson of Godwin; Marcus Peterson and wife, Lisa of Godwin; Marjorie P. Barefoot and husband, John Q. of Benson; Melody P. Williams and husband, Anthony of Dunn. Mr. Peterson had one sister, Janice Peterson of Godwin; eight grandchildren, Johnathon Barefoot (Corie), Madeline Baker (Earley), Austin Peterson (Maegan), Abbey Barefoot, Mikayla Peterson, Allen Peterson, Gracie Williams, and Eryn Williams; three great-grandchildren, Calan Barefoot, Waylon Peterson, and Braxton Baker.
