Mrs. Betty Joyce Hughes Autry, 82

STEDMAN Betty Joyce Hughes Autry passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Sunday, September 20, 2015. She was born on November 7, 1932 in Stedman to William Julian and Mandy Faircloth Hughes. She was a loving devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was always concerned about others before herself. She had a wonderful, loving heart and touched so many lives with her presence. Betty was a graduate of Stedman High School Class of 1951. Through the years, she was employed with Sears and Cumberland County Schools at Walker Spivey, Cape Fear High School and Stedman Junior High. During her retirement, she made many friends as an Avon Representative. Betty was a member of Magnolia Baptist Church in Stedman, where she served in numerous ministries through the years. She was a member of the North Carolina and Cumberland County Associations of Educational Office Professionals and Stedman Senior Citizens Club. Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, William Garland Autry; her parents and brothers, Harold Hughes and Donald Hughes. Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Magnolia Baptist Church, 1021 Magnolia Church Road, Stedman, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22 at Butler Funeral Home in Stedman. Burial will be in the Faircloth Family Cemetery in Stedman. She is survived by her daughters, Rhonda Goetke and husband John, Sandra Wrench and husband Glenn of Stedman; son, Gary Autry and wife Beth of Stedman; grandchildren, Jessica Black and husband Michael, Amanda Williams and husband Dallas, Matthew Goetke and wife Stuart, Ashley Bunce and husband Rhett, and Amber Wrench; great grandchildren, Holland Goetke, Grant Black and Wren Williams; sisters, Pauline Simpson, Peggy Edge, Bonnie Carter and husband Leo; brother, William Love Hughes and wife Claire; sister-in-law, Lula Lloyd; and many nieces and nephews.
