CLINTON
Rev. Arthur Clyde Shelton, 87 of Clinton, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at Sampson Regional Medical Center in Clinton.
The funeral service will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Friday, October 3, 2014 at Butler Funeral Home in Roseboro with Rev. Billy Hall and Rev. W.O. Reiber officiating. A private burial will be held with military honors.
Rev. Shelton was born on November 26, 1926 in Danville, Virginia, to the late Arthur Acuff and Bertha Jennings Shelton. He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, John David Shelton; and one grandson, James Isaac Shelton.
He served as a Combat Veteran in WWII and in the Pacific War with the U.S. Navy and then the Korean Conflict with the U.S. Army. He was a retired Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church Minister and a retired Educator.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Helen West Shelton of the home; three grandsons, Michael Shelton and wife Michelle of Roseboro, Joshua Shelton and wife Amy of Wilmington and Nathan Shelton and wife Jill of Roseboro; one granddaughter, Rachel Honeycutt of Clinton; and five great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening following the service at Butler Funeral Home in Roseboro and other times at the home of his grandson, Michael, Dunn Road, Roseboro.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the James Isaac Shelton Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o First Citizens Bank, Clinton, N.C. 28328.
