Clinton Mrs. Annie Laura Owens Riner, 91 of 5450 Garland Highway, died Thursday, November 24, 2016 at Sampson Regional Medical Center. A graveside service will be held at 3:00pm Sunday, November 27, 2016 at Sunrise Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Andy Wood and Neill Westerbeek officiating. Mrs. Riner was born in Scotland County on March 8, 1925 to the late Marshall and Laura McPherson Owens. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Henry Riner. Henry and Annie resided happily in Salemburg. She was fondly known as “Ms. Annie”. In addition to being a loving mother and grandmother, she loved to cook, enjoyed fishing, talking, babysitting, and spending time with her best friend, Janice Warren. Due to her failing health, she lived her last few years at the “Lily Pad” with her daughter and son-in-law. Recently, she became a resident of The Magnolia. Surviving are her daughter, Carolyn Pope (Jay) of Clinton; two sons, William Henry Riner, Jr. (Betty) of Autryville and Kelly Riner (Becky) of Oklahoma; brothers, Harry Owens (Lynda), Billy Owens (Cindy), Cloys Owens (Estelle), and Donald Owens (Vicky); five grandchildren, Susan Westerbeek (Neill), Jamie Pope (Emily), Chelsea Burcham (Vince), Will Riner and Kevin Riner; and three great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Mrs. Riner’s last earthly home, “The Lily Pad”, at 5450 Garland Highway, Clinton.
