Ms. Alice (Herring) Essey, 79 of Waxhaw, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.
Ms. Essey was a native of Sampson County, the daughter of Edgar Lee Herring and Lou Ray Caison. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Ms. Essey, affectionately known as Grandma Alice, loved spending time with family and friends at White Lake, serving countless meals to anyone who was remotely hungry, and cheering for her beloved Tarheels. She was a devoted elementary school teacher in Cumberland County for 31 years, serving at Mary McArthur Elementary.
Her Christian walk was split between Weddington Methodist Church in the fall/winter and The Lake Church in the spring/summer.
Grandma Alice leaves to cherish her memory her loving son, Stewart "Stu" Essey and wife Christy of Waxhaw; and 2 granddaughters, Tara and Paige Essey, of the home. She is also survived by her sister, Claudia Platt, of Altamonte Springs, FL; her nephew, Scott Stearns and wife Erin, of Orlando, FL; and great nieces, Kendall and Courtney Stearns, of the home.
Family and friends will remember Grandma Alice on Saturday, March 22 at an 11:00 memorial service. It will commence at:
