Mrs. Alexis JoAnn Matthews, 72 of 535 Ernest Williams Road, Roseboro, passed away Sunday, September 17, 2017 at her home.

The funeral will be held at 1:00pm Friday, September 22, at Butler Funeral Home, 401 W. Roseboro Street, Roseboro, with Reverend Andy Wood and Stephen Lucas officiating. Burial will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens, Salemburg.

Born December 28, 1944 in Huntington, NY, she was the daughter of the late Alexander Joseph and Grace Bitler Sabo. She is preceded in death by her parents; and son, Vonnice Nixon Matthews, Jr. She worked as a Beautician and was the former owner of Salemburg Hair Stylist.

She is survived by her husband, Vonnice N. Matthews; daughter, Tracey Howard and husband Steve of Autryville; sons, James A. Matthews and wife Ann of Roseboro, Craig A. Matthews and wife Carla of Salemburg; grandchildren, Matthew Stephen Howard, Kaitlyn Ann Howard, Morgan Elizabeth Howard, Hilary McCullen, Halery Tew, Cara Gray Matthews; sister, Aurene Lucas of Centereach, NY; and brothers, Alexander Sabo of Hampton Bays, NY, Alan Sabo of Port Jefferson, NY.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm Thursday, September 21, at Butler Funeral Home, Roseboro, and other times at the home.
