"In Loving Memory of Agnes Elise Spell Williams"
Agnes Elise Spell Williams, ("Mrs. Agnes"), 85 of Autryville died February 19, 2015 in Cape Fear Valley Hospital. She was born January 28, 1930 in Roseboro, and was the daughter of the late William Mossette Spell and Hosie Walker Williams Spell.
Agnes graduated from Clement School, attended Pineland College, and was a 1947 graduate of Campbell College. She was a lifetime member of Baptist Chapel Church, taught Sunday School periodically, enjoyed being a part of the Silver Bells, supported her home church of Union Grove Baptist Church and neighboring church of Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church. Agnes served as secretary for the North Carolina Certified Sweet Potato Seed Grower's Association, Inc. from 1966 to 2001 (35 years). Alongside her husband Bill, she was active in the Sampson County Farm Bureau, NC Sweet Potato Commission, NC Crop Improvement Association, NC Foundation Seed Producers, Sampson Regional Medical Center, and BB&T Bank. Agnes was Clement School's first paid secretary and held that position, as well as substitute teacher, for numerous years. She also worked as an Avon representative and traveled country roads throughout Sampson County where she formed many friendships. She also volunteered her time for a while on Clement Rescue Squad.
As a homemaker and retired farmer's wife, Mrs. Agnes enjoyed family, cooking, helping others, growing sweet potatoes, reading, traveling, and meeting people. She also loved to hear Southern and Bluegrass Gospel Music. For the past three years of her sickness, many talented neighbors would visit in her home and minister to her through their gospel music with family and friends by her side. Her favorite place away from home was the mountains of Fancy Gap, Virginia where she attended SkyView Baptist Church on many occasions.
God blessed Mrs. Agnes with a large family. She was extremely proud of each one and loved them all dearly. She is survived by the following: five children, Cynthia Williams Autry of Georgia and the home; Dwight Williams (wife Linda); Terrell Williams (wife Karen); Johnny Williams (wife Sherry); and Susan Williams Fail (husband Reed) all of Autryville; eleven grandsons, Robbie Autry; Clint Williams (wife Carol); Terry Williams (wife Heather); Mitch Williams (wife Sabrina); Dennis Williams; Jonathan Williams (wife Tracy); Christopher Williams (friend Kimberly Pate); Brandon Williams (fiancee` Hanna Dunn); Thomas McPhail (fiancee` Katie Jackson); William McPhail (wife Amanda); and Samuel McPhail; eleven great-grandchildren, Leah and Davis (Clint's children); Sydney, Rylie, Tanner, and Preslie (Terry's children); Isabelle and Cooper (Mitch's children); Aubrey and Emery (Jonathan's children); Caden (Christopher's son); two sisters-in-law, Sadie Williams and Shirley Williams; and numerous "special" nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Agnes is preceded in death by her beloved husband of sixty years, Hershel "Bill" McCray Williams; her father and mother, William Mossette Spell and Hosie Williams Spell; and two brothers, Bobby Ray and Leo Spell.
Agnes will truly be missed by her family, friends, and everyone in the community for her many good deeds of love and kindness. But, she is now at peace and rest in "Heaven" with her husband and "Heavenly Father" enjoying the music of the Angelic Choirs.
The family of Agnes Williams would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for your prayers, loving thoughts, phone calls, cards, flowers, food, visits, music and the many acts of compassion that were extended to us the last three years of her life, and during this time of loss. We especially "thank" her caregivers; Glennice Jackson, Denise "Neicey" Jacobs, Gwen Moore, April Cunningham, Jonisha "Dale" Cox-Joyner, Fran Faison, the Clement EMS System for their dedication and rapid response, and the many others who helped care for "Mama" during her illness.
