Aaron Steve Tanner Sr. of Newnan, GA, passed away Wednesday, September 30th, 2026, at Piedmont Newnan Hospital in Newnan, GA.
Steve, born November 28, 1947, in Sampson County, was the son of the late Aaron Love Tanner and Velma Tanner. He graduated Roseboro-Salemburg High School and served with Valor in Vietnam. He served as an officer on the Clinton Police Department, and retired from the U.S. Army (AGR). Steve loved spending time with family and friends and also loved his "furry children"; his Basset Hound, Matilda, and his Beagle, Trouper.
Steve loved the outdoors. He loved sharing his knowledge of the outdoors with his sons. Steve and his wife Ella traveled around the world and enjoyed each other's company on extended trips. Steve was an avid reader and history buff. He was particularly interested in historical battles, both global and domestic.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Aaron Love Tanner, his mother, Velma Tanner, his sister, Joyce Weaver, and his son, Steven Aman. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Ella Mae Hall Tanner of Newnan, GA, his sons Aaron Steve Tanner Jr. of Clinton, NC, Jeff Aman (Mary) of Clinton, NC and multiple grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, and extended family members.
A celebration of life service will be held at Butler Funeral Home in Roseboro, NC, at a date to be determined. Internment will be private.
